Jeans. Nothing is more complicated these days than buying a "cool" pair of jeans. Bootcut or straight leg? Raw denim or distressed? And just how detailed should the stitching on those back pockets be.Frankly, I think reasonably fashionable people can differ about this kind of stuff. I personally do NOT wear bootcut jeans anymore because whenever I don't wear boots (which is 99% of the time) they look like bell bottoms. So I'm a straight leg kind of guy. I also like my jeans more on the tight side as opposed to the loose side, but not skin tight spandex style. I leave that to the tall hipsters in Williamsburg.
As far as details go, I have a couple of pairs of jeans for different occassions. If I'm trying to look more "classy", I wear a pair of dark jeans that are not distressed in any way. If I'm going for a more urban look, I love a few holes and some paint on there. It depends on the situation.
The above pair of jeans look like they'd go great with the "classy" look. Slim-fitting and pretty dark with no distress marks. I don't know if they'd necessarily stand out, but they would sure as hell compliment an outfit.
